What is MANTRA

Guru is a guide who can understand all one’s problems and suggest Mantras with the help of which one could get rid of all problems.

Mantra is a divine combination of divine syllables or sounds which when chanted with devotion, faith and emotion gravitate the concerned God or Goddess or deity and secure their divine blessings. For divine help one must link with divine forces but majority of humans are unaware of these forces and have no link whatsoever. But when an individual starts chanting Mantra related to a particular deity regularly the gap between him and the concerned divine force steadily decreases. By regular use of Mantra a subtle link is formed and through this one could then obtain any desired boon within the power of the deity. One could obtain wealth, prosperity, fame, fearlessness, success and spiritual upliftment, but for each a different Mantra is chanted and a different deity propitiated.

A Mantra is a special set of words through only that particular deity could be summoned. If I write or speak in Chinese you won’t be able to understand and my words will not produce any effect. But if I speak the language you know its effect shall be with doubt. Praying to these deities in one’s language won’t help much but if one uses the words that they can understand the result shall be instant.

These words are the Mantras evolved by Rishis and Yogis who actually prepared them and used them to prove their worth. Over the ages these have helped thousands of Sadhaks achieve even that which appeared impossible to them. Within doubt that whose chanting fulfils one’s wish is a Mantra.

Mantras of various deities

Now a days there are thousands of mantras available in all kinds of remedial books and magazines. The authenticity and the effectiveness of most of them is quite doubtful. Most of what we are reproducing below are from the book “Meditations from the Tantras” by Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda Saraswati, one of the greatest self realized yogis of our times and an acknowledged master of the tantra.

Gayatri Mantra: According to the Hindu scriptures Devi Gayatri is the Mother of the Vedas. It is said that even Trinities (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) worship her as their Mother.

The Gayatri Mantra is the prescribed daily mantra for all Hindus and regarded as the remover of all sins and the bestower of all desired things. It is also part of the Sandhya Vandana.

The sage Vishwamitra is given the credit for bringing Mother Gayatri to earth. The following is the most commonly recited Gayatri Mantra.

Om Bhuh Bhuvah Svah Tat SaviturvarenyamBhargodevasya Dhimahi Dhiyoyonah Prachodayat

The meaning of the Gayatri mantra is as follows:

We contemplate the glory of Light illuminating the three worlds: gross, subtle, and causal. I am that vivifying power, love, radiant illumination, and divine grace of universal intelligence. We pray for the divine light to illumine our minds.

Siddh Kunjika Stotra

let us know the significance of the Siddha Kunjika Stotram

This is the essence of the Chandi, the Navarna Mantra, the constant reminder that change She will, change She must, because change is Her intrinsic Nature.

What is the meaning of ‘Kunjika’ in the Siddha Kunjika Stotram? Kunjika literally means “something overgrown or hidden by growth or growing things.” Siddha means perfection. Stotram is the song. The Song of Perfection which is no longer hidden because of growth. That is, our spiritual growth and understanding of the Chandi exposes the hidden meanings of the bija mantras in the Song.

When to recite kunjika stotatram

who do not want to undergo the long Durga SaptaShati/Chandi Path. The Siddha Kunjika Stotra itself says at the begining that no argala or kilak stotra and other related matters is needed if one recites Siddha Kunjika Stotra. Kunjika, there is Devi in the form of Chamunda . Not only it works for Navaratri , it is to be chanted at the junction when Ashtami leaves and enters Navami . 24 mins before Ashtami ends to 24 mins after navami starts, is the time when Devi takes the form of Chamunda and had got to be chanted no matter the count to exhaust 48 mins .

How to Count 48 minutes

Each Tithi lasts for 24 hours . If for example the Navami starts at 21.30 pm in the night then you should start at 21.06 (which is Ashtami ) and continue untill 21.54 pm, that 48 mins is called Sandhi kshan or period of transit, when Devi in the form of Chamunda is killingChanda and Munda(the demons). That is regarded as the most auspiscious time of Navaratri as Devi is ready to give boon after Sandhi kshan is over

NAMAMI YAMUNAMAHAM, SAKALSIDDHIHETUM MUDA
MURARI-PADPANKAJ SFURADMANDRENOOKATAM
TATASTAHA-NAVKANANA PRAKATMOD-PUSHPAMBUNA
SURASURPOOJITSMARANAPITUHU SHRIYAM BIBHRATEEM.

1. I bow joyfully to Yamuna, the source of all spiritual powers, rich
with heaps of sand–the gleaming dust of Murari’s lotus-feet. She bears, on her waves with the joy-bright flowers from the fresh-blossomed lotus that line her banks, the Splendour of Love’s Father (Krishna), whom gods and demons worship.

KALINDGRIMASTAKE PATADAMAND-POOROJJWALA
VILAS-GAMANOLLASAT, PRAKAT-GANDSHAILONNATA
SAGHOSH-GATIDANTURA, SAMADHIROODH-DOLOTTAMA
MUKUND-RATIVARDHINEE, JAYANTI PADAMA-BANDHO SUTA

2. Born of the Sun, she falls from Mount Kalinda’s forehead, her swelling floods flashing brilliantly. And she sways, with enchanting grace, as she courses down the cliffs that are Kalinda’s bright, full cheeks. Noisily she pursues her jagged path (below), tossed here and here like a bride in a swinging palanquin, and, making Mukunda’s love grow ever stronger, she conquers.

BHUVAM BHUVANA-PAWANEE MADHIGATA-MANEKASWANAIHI
PRIYA-BHIRIVA SEVITAM, SHUKA-MAYUR HAM-SADIBHIH
TARANG-BHUJKANKANA-PRAKATMUKTIKAVALUKA-
NITAMBATAT-SUNDAREEM, NAMATA-KRSNATURYA-PRIYAM

Bow down to her who has descended to the earth as its sanctified attended by parrots, peacocks and geese, with their varied songs, as if by so many beloved maidens. The bank’s curves form the swell of her comely hips, this loved one prized as transcendent by Krishna; and the sands there gleam brilliantly, for they are pearls worn as bracelets by her arms, the waves.

ANANT-GUNBHUSHITE, SHIVAVIRANCHI-DEVASTUTE GHANAGHANANIBHE SADA, GHRUVAPARAHARA-BHEESHTADE VISHUDDHA-MATHURATATE, SAKAL-GOPGOPIVRUTE KRUPAJALADHISANSHRITE MAMA MANHA SUKHAM BHAVAYA

Adorned with countless virtues, and praised by the gods with Shiva and Brahma, you are ever as black as a mass of clouds, o Giver of what Dhruva and Parashara most desired. On your bank is sacred Mathura, thronged with Gopas and Gopis. You, who have taken refuge in the Ocean of Mercy, bring joy to my heart.

YAYA CHARANPADMADJA MURARIPOHO PRIYAMBHAVUKA SAMAGAMANTOBHAVAT. SKALSIDHIDA SEVTAM TAYA SADRUSHTAMIYAT, KAMALJA SPATNEEVA YAT. HARIPRIYAKLINDAYA, MANSI ME SADA STEEYATAM. 5. Ganga, who is born of Krishna’s lotus-feet, gained his love and became the giver of all spiritual powers to those who worship her only because she flowed together with Yamuna. Let the lotus-born Lakshmi, then, be an equal and co-wife, as it were (with Yamuna), but may Yamuna, who destroys the Kali-terror of Hari’s loved ones, be fixed forever in my heart.

NAMOSTU YAMUNE SADA, TAV CHARITRAMATYADBHUTAM NA JATU YAMYATANA, BHAVATI TE PAYAHAPANATAHA YAMOPI BHAGINISUTAN KSTHAMU HANTI DUSHTANAPI PRIYO BHAVATI SEVANAT. TAV HAREERYATHA GOPIKAHA

Homage to you always, Yamuna; your exploits outrun wonder. Never will Yama’s torments touch one who drinks your milk. For not even Death (Yama) could strike his own sister’s sons, though they are evil. The one who worships you wins, like Gopis, the love of your Hari.

MAMASTU TAV SANNIDHAU, TANUNAVATVAMETAVATA NA DURLABTAMA RATIRMURARIPAU MUKUNDPRIYE ATOSTU TAV LALNA, SURDHUNEE PARAM SANGMAT. TAVAIV BHUVI KEERTITA NA TU KADAPI PUSHTISTHITAHI.

May I gain newness of body in your presence, o beloved of Mukunda, for with that alone will love for Mura’s Enemy become easy. Let my cherishing be of you, then for only after she joins with you is Ganga praised so loudly on earth–but not by those who are established in Grace.

STUTIM TAVA KAROTI KAHA, KAMALJASPATNI PRIYE HARERYDANUSEVAYA, BHAVATI SAUKYAMAMOXATAHA IYAM TAV KATHADHIKA SAKALGOPIKASANGAMA- SMARASHRAMAJALANUBHI, SAKALGATRAJAIHI SANGAMAHA.

Who can (possibly) praise your, then, co-wife of Lakshmi, beloved? For worship of Lakshmi must be preceded by worship of Hari, and even then it results in the bliss of liberation at most. But far greater is this, your story: oneness with the drops that flow from his every limb as He exerts himself in his union of love with all the Gopis.

TAVASHTAKMIDAM MUDA, PATHATI SOORSOOTE SADA SAMASTADURITAKSHAYO, BHAVATI VAI MUKUNDE RATHIHI TAYA SAKALSIDDHAYO MURRIPUSHCHA SANTUSHYATI SWABHAV-VIJAYO BHAVET, BADATIVALLABHAHA SHIRE-HAREHE

Removal of all sins and love for Mukunda result for the joyful and constant reader of this, your octet, o Daughter of the sun. By her come all spiritual powers, bye her is Mura’s Enemy gladdened, through her comes conquest of one’s own nature, says Srimad Acharya Sri Vallabha, Hari’s dear one.

JaiShreeYamunaji
